Fundraising in 2.0 world

Social media has dominated the web 2.0 world in the recent times as a cutting edge fund raising platform. Before I get further down, I have to confess that I lack any background in fund raising. However, the insight I provide in this regard, stems from my experience developing financial applications. Having said that, I have often been inspired to give (or volunteer) based on the efforts pioneered by non-profits transforming social media in raising awareness. I am more aware of various causes today than before. Other factors aside, It is also the intrinsic ability to connect with individuals that share similar passion that has brought about this change in attitude. With this transformation underway, the screencast explores the some operational challenges behind raising funds online.

Inspired Giving Using Social Media

Not a day passes by without some level of coverage on popular blogs or a viral video with people actively participating towards a common goal. Even if it is a comment, social media has helped individuals to influence collective thinking in a way that was not possible before. Government agencies and non-profits have been the first among the organizations to realize potential of this new channel to raise awareness among masses. But social media is changing by the day with the creation of new social networks (Facebook, twitter, second life..the list goes on). Many agencies have their prescence established but keeping up with developments has been challenging. The following video (< 5min) attempts to outline a strategy to leverage this prescence to raise awareness and inspire giving among the community.
