Emerging Trends, June 24, 2009

Major gift donors have been making larger gifts but fewer in total. These appear to have a domino like effect with others in the same donor community. For examples see the Weekly Activity Tables below.

For much of the first half of 2009, the dollar value of major gifts that includes named gifts, appears to be slightly higher than in previous years.

On Friday morning, Warren Buffet announced a $1.56 billion gift of stock to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The 78 year old philanthropist recently held his 10th Annual Charity Auction where an anonymous donor paid over $1.1 million to have lunch with him.
